Trimac Transportation Crowned Safest Tank Truck Carrier in North America
Published on April 25, 2025

CALGARY, Alta.—Trimac Transportation has been named the 2024 North American Safety Champion in the Harvison Division (over 15 million miles) by the National Tank Truck Carriers (NTTC), earning the prestigious title of the safest tank truck carrier on the continent.
The award was presented on April 24, 2025, at the NTTC Annual Conference in Tampa, Florida, marking a historic achievement for Trimac. This victory follows our recognition as a Grand Award Winner for two consecutive years, and is the third time in four years that Trimac has been ranked first in our mileage class—a remarkable testament to the sustained strength of our safety culture. In addition to winning the Competitive Safety Award in the Harvison Division in 2002 and 2007, Trimac last took home the coveted Heil Trophy in 2019.
The NTTC’s North American Safety Contest, which has been showcasing the tank truck industry’s commitment to safety excellence since 1948, evaluates carriers on a broad range of performance indicators, including driver qualification and training, worker safety programs, equipment maintenance, inspection protocols and industry engagement. The Competitive Safety Contest is open to all for-hire tank truck carrier members and tank truck private fleet members of NTTC who are in good standing with the association. Carriers and private fleets compete in mileage class categories based on relative size. The contest is conducted in two rounds to determine the safest tank truck for-hire carrier or private fleet in North America. Trimac stood out across all nine scored sections of the contest, with particular strength in driver coaching, safety innovation and proactive hazard prevention.
“We congratulate Trimac, MBH Trucking, and LSP Transport for their outstanding commitment to safety and excellence in the tank truck industry,” said NTTC President & CEO Ryan Streblow. “These companies exemplify the highest standards of safety performance, and we’re proud to recognize their achievements on this national stage.”
“This recognition reflects the daily commitment of every Trimac team member,” said Alex Guariento, Vice President of Safety. “At Trimac, safety isn’t just a compliance measure—it’s how we think, how we lead, and how we support one another. What makes us different is that we build a culture where people are encouraged to learn and even fail—safely, and without fear. That’s where engagement begins, and that’s what sustains our success.”
Trimac’s award-winning practices include:
– A “freedom to fail safely” culture that removes the fear of discipline for honest mistakes and encourages open hazard reporting.
– Over 2,200 coaching interventions each month, powered by in-cab video analytics, to address driving behaviour before it becomes a risk.
– An industry-first product stewardship training program delivered via tablets and recorded validation—designed to replace traditional classroom models with interactive, jobsite-ready instruction.
– Technology-driven approaches to confined space safety, predictive analytics and weather-related fleet shutdowns to prevent accidents before they happen.
Trimac’s safety success is also made possible by the support of the families behind its workforce. The encouragement, patience, and understanding shown by the families of drivers, technicians, and staff members play a critical role in helping employees stay focused, rested and committed to safe practices. Recognizing the importance of this support network, Trimac acknowledges that achieving industry-leading safety performance is a team effort—both on and off the job.
“This win is for our drivers, mechanics, dispatchers, leaders—everyone who makes safety personal,” Guariento added. “It’s also a challenge to keep improving. We’ve raised the bar—and we’re not done yet.”
