In the United States, Trimac Transportation adopted the Guiding Principles of Responsible Care and published a company policy reflecting Trimac Transportation’s commitment to protecting the environment and being a steward of the chemical transportation industry. Trimac Transportation attained Responsible Care Management System (RCMS) accreditation in 2009 and has mapped out a course to remain certified.
Trimac Transportation has participated in the Inter-industry Bulk Chemical Highway Safety Task Group Steering Committee. It was initiated by the Chemical Manufacturers Association (CMA) and the National Tank Truck Carriers (NTTC) in 1992. The committee broadly evaluated industry practices regarding the handling, packaging, product identification, risk assessment, and highway movement of chemicals. It also made safety recommendations and commented on regulatory positions.
Trimac has been involved with individual ACC members on route risk assessment to minimize potential exposure to large population areas and natural waterways.
In Canada, Trimac has a long history of support for the Canadian Chemical Producers Association (CCPA). This has included direct input into the development of the TransCAER programs, assistance with the Community Awareness and Emergency Response programs in various municipalities, a study in Alberta involving communities that are in transportation corridors where there is no presence of a Responsible Care member company, and joint workshops with Emergency Measures Ontario.
Trimac has assisted the CCPA and its member companies through mock disaster training exercises conducted in numerous cities throughout Canada. Exercises have been conducted in Sarnia, Edmonton, North Vancouver, Kamloops, and Golden. Trimac Transportation’s Oakville branch was a founding member of the Oakville/Mississauga TransCAER program.
In 2013, Trimac was approved for membership as a Responsible Care Partner by the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC). Responsible Care, established in Canada in 1985, is the chemistry industry’s sustainability initiative, and inspires CIAC members and partners to continuously improve the health, safety and environmental performance of their operations.
Trimac branches are audited by QRC & Associates as part of the CCPA Motor Carrier Evaluation.
Trimac has been involved in the CCPA's National TransCAER committee and Regional TransCAER committees (British Columbia, Prairies, Ontario, and Quebec).
