Maintenance & Inspection ProgramOur Maintenance Programs exceed regulatory requirements.
Trimac Transportation has a formal, written equipment maintenance and inspection program that exceeds all regulatory requirements and yet attempts to minimize maintenance costs and equipment downtime.
Trimac’s maintenance program is enhanced through computer based tracking and reporting systems.
Trimac’s dispatch operating systems track tractor and trailer maintenance intervals that allow scheduling of regular maintenance. Trimac has developed maintenance management information systems that permit enhanced shop productivity, improved inventory management, optimal parts pricing, and computer work orders for all jobs. Maintenance records are maintained for all power units and trailers, and lease operators are required to complete an inspection every 90 days.
Mandatory pre-trip and post-trip inspections
Trimac has improved its driver pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspection process complete with on-line training of drivers. Any safety related items are corrected immediately.
All external maintenance facilities are Trimac approved and meet Trimac standards.
Trimac owns and operates numerous company maintenance facilities. Where outside repair facilities are used, they are approved as meeting Trimac standards. Trimac maintenance personnel have been fully trained to handle company equipment and suppliers have been utilized to train personnel in new technology.
ASME certified shops in Houston, TX, Oakville, ON, and Edmonton, AB are certified to complete repairs on pressure vessels.
Trimac has three ASME certified trailer maintenance shops with a R stamp to permit repairs on code tanks. A large number of company shops are also government registered state or provincial inspection facilities.
Trimac employs equipment maintenance professionals at the Corporate, Divisional and Branch levels who support our initiatives in optimum equipment design, efficiency and safety.
Trimac has full-time professional division and region maintenance managers who support branch maintenance personnel. They are also members of the Equipment Standards Committee (ESC) along with head office trailer design and purchasing and equipment personnel. The ESC is responsible for optimizing equipment design to minimize weight and life cycle cost, and to evaluate and adopt new technology. They are also the forum for employee involvement in equipment design and purchase.
Trimac is at the forefront in the implementation of safety related equipment features.
Trimac leads the trucking industry in many design innovations and safety features e.g. trailer fall protection, ABS, automatic slack adjusters, conspicuity tape retrofitted on all trailers.
Our programs and resources ensure that innovations and improvements in maintenance practices are implemented in our operations.
Trimac aggressively pursues various opportunities for reducing maintenance costs, including extending service intervals, implementing auto lube systems, and using extended service brakes.
As a North American carrier Trimac is a leader in responding to public and corporate safety concerns.
An increased public concern about wheels coming off in Ontario, led Trimac to participate in the development of improved wheel installation standards and training in cooperation with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation and Ontario Trucking Association. This has been cascaded to all Trimac shops, and also to outside repair facilities installing Trimac wheels. |
